When RWE announced its groundbreaking initiative to deploy recyclable turbine blades at the Thor Offshore Wind Farm, NordicBlade’s leadership recognised a pivotal moment. While their decades of expertise in blade repair positioned them well, transitioning to recyclable blade manufacturing presented both technical and financial hurdles that threatened to put this opportunity out of reach.
Through intimate collaboration with NordicBlade’s team, we crafted a transformation strategy that preserved their artisanal expertise while modernising their capabilities:
Rather than attempting to compete with major manufacturers, we identified a valuable niche: specialised components for recyclable blade assembly. This approach leveraged NordicBlade’s existing skills while requiring modest capital investment.
We orchestrated a knowledge-sharing arrangement between NordicBlade and Aalborg University’s Department of Materials Science. This collaboration yielded two innovative bonding techniques specifically suited for recyclable materials.
